Creativity in Benefit Design - Part 2
February 2008
I very much appreciate the time many of you took to share some of the creative ideas you are using to enhance and engage employees at your places of work.
Here are just some of the examples from clients and associates:
- Offering additional tools and training for your staff members (from Bob Hooey at www.bobhooey.com)
- Providing wellness alternatives, including herbal medicines (from Elizabeth Walker at www.amberleafwellness.ca)
- Enabling people to become healthier and live healthier lifestyles
- Prevention is a first step in promoting good health and well-being
- Giving Free Trips to conferences: managers are invited to attend these in great destinations such as Niagara Falls and Hawaii when they hit their goals
- Cash bonuses to managers for achieving their goals
• Remember to check the tax implications of this method as well as the other ones - Birthday or Anniversary off: an employee gets the day off when it is his or her birthday or anniversary
- The last Friday of every month off: this allows employees time to make medical appointments and look after personal business
- Special birthday present: with a certain dollar limit
- Movie night: the employer pays for a movie night out with employees and/or their families.
- Spa treatments: women and most men alike enjoy being pampered in this way!
- Dinner theatre: employees are taken to a night out with their spouses
- Other holiday presents: these can be as simple as chocolates or as elaborate as LCD TVs and Ipods
- Fitness facility: one employer has set up an aerobic and weight training room
- Lunch with or without management: this is a great way to build your team
- Nap room for tired and overworked employees (this was a favorite of many!)
